Try Panackelty.

Start with an example, change a value, and run it. Your program compiles and runs on your device; its source is not sent to a server.

Experimental browser edition · current development compiler · bytecode v9. The alpha.10 download also uses v9; browser host capabilities are more limited.

Edit freely. Loading an example replaces the editor. Each run starts fresh; keep a copy of code you want to save.

From source to output

How does this work?

When you press Run program, Panackelty checks your code and compiles it into bytecode: instructions for the Panackelty virtual machine (VM). The VM then executes those instructions and displays the output above.

What happens when you press Run

  1. Your source codeThe text you enter in the editor.
  2. Compile on the VMThe compiler checks your source.
  3. Panackelty bytecodeThe instructions produced by the compiler.
  4. Execute on the VMA fresh VM instance runs those instructions.
  5. Your outputResults appear above.

The compiler is itself a Panackelty bytecode program. Both compilation and execution use the same Panackelty VM implementation.

Compilation and execution happen on your device; your source code is not sent to a server. Each run starts fresh.

How the browser edition is built

The playground is not a JavaScript reimplementation of Panackelty. The core project publishes matched compiler, standard-library and portable VM build inputs; the browser project compiles that VM to WebAssembly and supplies the browser-specific host.

Browser-specific source and validation live in panackelty-browser; the language, compiler and canonical VM remain in Panackelty core.

What can I run here?

Complete programs using exact numbers, types, pure functions, collections and supported standard-library operations. Compiler errors appear above, with source positions where available.

Programs cannot access your device files, start processes or use networking. Runtime file writes and typed native host services are unavailable; standard input is empty. This is not a persistent REPL.

Limits: 32 KiB UTF-8 source and output, a 15-second foreground timeout and 256 MiB of linear memory per VM instance. The browser uses additional memory. Background timers may be delayed; Stop ends the worker.
